Daniel Richter

German painter Daniel Richter’s (b. 1962) fluorescent colours and vigorous brushwork emit a rebellious quality that most likely stems from his days as a poster and record sleeve designer. While his earlypaintings abided by the tenets of abstraction, since 2002, his practice has veered into figuration. Compounding sex, history, mass media, and contemporary culture on his large-scale canvas, Richter seeks to convey dynamism and confrontation. His splayed limbs and multicoloured canvases radiate restlessenergy, which often resembles eroticism or lust.

Richter’s work has graced the walls of many esteemed institutions, including the Kunsthaus, Stade,Germany (2018); Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, Denmark (2017); Camden Art Centre,London (2016); Museum der Moderne Rupertinum, Salzburg, Austria (2010). His pieces are held incountless public and private international institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa;Centre Pompidou, Paris; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; the MoMA, New York; Deutsche Bank Collection,Frankfurt; and the Vanhaerents Art Collection, Brussels.
