The season opener of Cinema is Served will show a special screening of Jiro Dreams of Sushi. This 2011 documentary directed by David Gelb follows Jiro Ono, an 85-year-old sushi master and owner of Sukiyabashi Jiro, a world-renowned, three-Michelin-star restaurant located in a Tokyo subway station. The film explores Jiro’s lifelong dedication to the pursuit of sushi perfection, highlighting his meticulous work ethic, commitment to craftsmanship, and the challenges faced by his sons, particularly his eldest, Yoshikazu, who is expected to carry on his father’s legacy. The documentary beautifully captures the artistry behind sushi-making and the personal sacrifices involved in striving for mastery.
